Prabowo joins launch of Gaza Board of Peace at WEF 2026 in Davos

Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto attended the launch of the Gaza Board of Peace on Thursday on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum (WEF) 2026 at Congress Hall in Davos, Switzerland

Earlier in the day, Indonesia’s Foreign Ministry confirmed that Indonesia, along with Turkey, Egypt, Jordan, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), had decided to join the Gaza Board of Peace initiated by U.S. President Donald Trump.

Prabowo arrived at the venue around 11:00 a.m. local time and was welcomed by Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono, who had arrived earlier at Congress Hall.

President Trump, as broadcast on the White House’s official YouTube channel, opened the event at 11:15 a.m. President Prabowo, wearing a black peci cap and a grey suit, was seated in the front row on the stage alongside several other world leaders.

Trump briefly greeted Prabowo before taking the podium to deliver his remarks.

The Gaza Board of Peace, established by Trump, follows up on the Comprehensive Plan to End the Gaza Conflict endorsed under United Nations Security Council Resolution 2803.

Trump announced plans for the formation of the Gaza Board of Peace last week and invited leaders of several countries to join. He said the Gaza Board of Peace could serve as a “temporary authority” in Gaza, including overseeing the mobilisation of international resources for the Palestinian population in the territory.

The eight Arab and Muslim-majority countries that joined the Gaza Board of Peace said in a joint statement that they believe the initiative could provide a pathway toward peace, a permanent ceasefire, an advancing a just and lasting resolution in Palestine.

In the same statement, the eight countries stressed the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination and statehood in accordance with international law.

However, several countries, including most European Union members such as France and China, declined to join, stating that they place greater trust in the United Nations to lead efforts to restore stability in Gaza.
